A Message from Ben: REDNECK BOY IN THE PROMISED LAND
June 3rd of 2008 is going to be an exciting day around our place because that is the day my
book, “Redneck Boy in the Promised Land”, will be released nationally. Subtitled “The Confessions of Crazy Cooter”, it is a memoir of 65 years of adventures, good times, hard knocks, wild living, serious problems, and great blessings. |
|
This is a story about a lot of things: my hard living family, growing up on the railroad, working my way through school, getting involved in show business, tales of acting on stage and in films, struggling with alcoholism and drug abuse, finding sobriety and then finding stardom on the “Dukes”, my love of politics and the South, my years in Congress, and above all the abiding strength that Alma and I have found through a loving God.
There are a lot of stories in this book that I hesitated to tell, and frankly, it isn’t a book for pre-teens. It is what I believe is an honest telling of a fully lived life of ups and downs, and the lessons I have learned in spite of myself. Hopefully, these stories might help someone who is going through what I went through.
I think you will like it and I hope you will buy it and let me know what you think. Although the book doesn’t come out until June, you could do me a great favor by pre-ordering it now through Amazon, Borders Books, Barnes & Noble, or just about anywhere books are sold. (Pre-ordered sales are a big help to the book’s promotion). All you do is type in Redneck Boy in the Promised Land and it will take you right to it. Ordering early will also save you 33% off!
We’ll have the book at Dukesfest in late June, and we’ll also be doing an extensive national book tour. So, “if the Good Lord is willing and the creeks don’t rise,” I’ll be able to sign your copy personally in the very near future. Until then, all the best! — Ben aka “Cooter”
Ben Jones—“Cooter” from
television’s The Dukes of Hazzard and former U.S. Congressman from Georgia— shares the inspiring story of his improbable rise to fame.
“Not too many of my ‘distinguished colleagues’ in the U.S. Congress had grown up as I had, on the docks by a railroad yard, in a shack without electricity or indoor plumbing. And none of them had been a likker drinkin’, hell-raisin’, dope-smokin’, fist-fightin’, womanizin’ jailbird wild man like me. Before The Dukes of Hazzard and before my Congressional career, I hit a hard bottom at the back door of hell. But my life is not a story about falling down. This is a story about getting up.”
